Not every day does a new cat breed as fascinating and unusual as the Selkirk Rex come along. Selkirk Rex have both curly whiskers and curly coats. They come in all colours of coats and in both long and short hair.
Not only do they have a unique appearance but their amazining personality makes them that llittle bit special. They are very people oriented , very playful and intelligent and with their affectionate personality they worm their way into your heart and wrap themselves round your little finger.
They love watching their humans and if only they could they would love to interact with their humans. They are a very flexible breed being quite happy to live in an apartment with no problems., as well as a large country mansion. They get on well with children and other breeds of cats and settle easily into a new home Their playfulness, unique charm, amazing personality makes the Selkirk Rex an ideal pet. The Selkirk Rex is still a very young breed and to enable a wider gene pool, outcrossing with Persians and British Shorthairs (both short and longhair) will be allowed for some years.
As a result some Selkirk Rex are straighthaired but they still have the amazing personality of their curly siblings. The only problem with Selkirk Rex is once you have had one , one will not be enough.

Sie schauen ihrem Menschen gerne bei seinem Tun zu und würden am liebsten alles nachmachen.
Die Selkirk Rex ist sehr anpassungsfähig und lässt sich problemlos in der Wohnung halten. Auch mit Kindern kommen sie sehr gut klar. Ebenso sind andere Haustiere kein Problem. Die große Verspieltheit, die erstaunliche Unkompliziertheit und der umwerfenden Charme dieser Katzen machen die Selkirk Rex zum idealen Haustier.
Die Selkirk Rex ist eine sehr junge, seltene Rasse. Um die nötige genetische Breite zu schaffen ist die Einkreuzung von Persern und BKH erlaubt. Daher entstehen auch glatthaarige Selkirk Rex Katzen.
